Spread the word

Good publicity is good news for everyone, so please display Will Aid posters and leaflets in your office. And if you are mailing clients, you could consider including a leaflet for them. If you’d like more posters and leaflets for places near you such as post offices, estate agents or Independent Financial Advisers, please let us know. Order materials

To promote your involvement, please send a Will Aid Press Release to local newspapers and radio stations. Ask if they have any features about Will Aid planned – you could be part of them.

Be prepared

Please brief your staff, especially your receptionist, as soon as you can to deal with the enquiries they’ll be receiving from August onwards. Will Aid appointments do not have to be restricted to November, so if you prefer to spread them over a longer period please do so. Don’t forget to put up your posters and display your leaflets from September onwards to publicise your involvement.  You can click here> for more tips on generating local publicity.

Once a Will Aid appointment has been booked, we suggest that you enclose the leaflet ‘Making your Will with Will Aid’ with your terms of engagement or confirmation letter.  This will ensure that your client fully understands the scheme and the minimum suggested donation levels before your meeting with them.

If you receive more enquiries than you wish, kindly let us know immediately. We can steer enquirers elsewhere for you.

Make it happen

Many solicitors find it convenient to ask the client for their donation at the initial appointment.  This saves time and ensures that the client is serious about proceeding. For advice about handling donations please click here .

Suggested minimum Will Aid donations are £90 for a basic single Will, £135 for a basic pair of mirror Wills or £40 for a codicil. If you prefer, you are welcome to indicate your usual rate to clients and invite them to donate a similar amount.

If your client requires more than a basic Will or needs other advice, you are free to charge separately for the additional work involved.  Please make sure you have agreed fees before accepting the instruction.

We recognise that you may be very busy during the campaign month and it can take time to complete all the Wills.  To save problems arising, it is a good idea to explain to the client how long it is likely to be before their Will can be drafted.

Make an even bigger difference

As you know, many people find great comfort in making a gift to a good cause in their Will.  At the same time, legacy income is very important to charities. When writing a Will, please ask your clients to consider leaving a legacy to charity.  And if they do so, indicate this on the Will Aid receipt. This information will be kept confidential and the Will maker will not be contacted by the charity unless they wish to be.
